What’s in our Nutsack?? Our Top 5 Travel Gadgets

Packing for a long journey is a skill one must perfect. On our 2+ month adventure we had an opportunity to put our favorite gadgets to the test. Above all the items stuffed into our nut sack, these are those that we were most thankful for.

Here are 5 items that EVERY traveler should have~

1. Solar Battery Charger

Picture this–you drag yourself out of bed at 4am, quickly ready and biked for 30 minutes in the pitch black. The gates open and you RUN to be the first to capture the sun rise over Angkor Wat Temple, the 7th Wonder of the World. You wait, and you wait, and then all too suddenly, your phone dies.

Yep, that was me.

Sadly this occurred at the most inopportune moments, and my heart always leapt when Evan whipped out our solar charger. This lovely little device ensured that we captured and preserved our favorite memories.

Oh, and when you are stuck on a bus for 10 hours and need to finish that last moment of your Netflix movie, you’ll thank us for having gotten the charger.

Angkor Sunrise

While there are tons of power bank options, we love this one because it’s a solar charger –allowing you to set it in the sun and re-energize when outlets are not accessible. A must for campers!

2. iPhone – PC Storage Space Saver

This ones a little tricky to explain, but it’s one of those things that will be your most valuable gadget. Who isn’t always grappling for extra storage space? In the past you may have found us digging through our phones trying to locate unnecessary videos to delete and free up space.

Then came the HooToo. With this device you can upload pictures and easily transfer to your computer. On our trip we lugged around our laptop, and while annoying at times, it sure came in handy when we wanted to upload/view/edit our GoPro videos, research upcoming destinations and book travel. If you also travel with your laptop, this device is a must. If you do not, it’s also a stellar photo backup!

Traveling with endless storage space–priceless.

3. Noise Cancelling Earbuds

Evan had these on our recent nine week trip and I did not– instead I had opted for a cheap bulky pair that took up precious space.  EVERY time we were on a plane, bus, beach, pretty much anywhere that I wanted to Zen out, I would stare at Evan with a jealous glare until FINALLY I got my own. Sure they are a bit pricey, especially if you opt for the amazing BOSE Quietcomfort earbuds, but we think that the GoNovate sweat free buds are also a stellar (and cheaper) option!

4. The BEST Neck Pillow Around

The most genius invention for travel everywhere. This neck pillow was surely the best Christmas present we received last year. Unlike the bulky traditional neck pillow which you can never quite get right, this one is form-fitting, incredibly comfortable and unbelievably soft. Our favorite part –it’s washable, stores easily, and weighs almost nothing.

We actually washed our pillows twice throughout the long trip, and could rest assured that it was perfectly clean when we nestled it around our heads. And, never once (even on our 21 hour flight!) did we wake up with sore necks.

5. Bluetooth Speaker

I know I know, it seems simple, and it should be! This little gadget brought us tons of joy and filled our quite moments with soulful sounds. I remember one night in Northern Laos when I drank too much (only happened once!), and I woke up to this little guy by my head, soothing me back to sleep. Thank you, Evan! Seriously though, we loved including this in our day pack — no WIFI or cords needed to enjoy tunes beach side.
